Bladder Perforation Symptoms

|

Bladder Perforation SymptomsVaginal mesh medical deices, otherwise known as bladder slings, continue to be used in the treatment of injuries sustained by the pelvic floor. Accordingly, women diagnosed with pelvic floor prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) are typical candidates for these devices. Of particular concern, however, are reports that suggest a possible connection between vaginal mesh implants and the potential for bladder perforation. Bladder perforation symptoms may range from severe pain and discomfort to life-threatening infections. Therefore, if you believe you may have a perforated bladder because of a vaginal mesh implant, you may be entitled to compensation.

Summary of Bladder Perforation Symptoms

The strategical insertion of a transvaginal mesh implant supports the contents of the abdomen and prevents them from becoming displaced in the presence of compromised pelvic floor tissue. Of significant concern, however, is the rate in which transvaginal mesh products experience some form of failure. Unfortunately, one of the most common complications associated with these devices is that of bladder perforation. This particular condition witnesses the mesh itself penetrate the bladder, causing a rupture in the organ.

Although symptoms of transvaginal mesh bladder perforation will vary depending on the location and severity of the bladder trauma, most women affected by transvaginal mesh bladder perforation will experience some combination of the following:

  • Organ perforation
  • Bleeding episodes (hemorrhage & hematoma
  • Pain
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • painful urination
  • blood in urine
  • Pain
  • Fever
  • Infection
  • Dyspareunia
  • Distention
  • Transvaginal mesh exposure
  • Mesh erosion into bladder or rectum
  • Death
